Rheumatoid Arthritis

Free eBooks on Rheumatoid Arthritis

Read online Dr. Morrow's Arthritis Secrets Ebook. It is a patient's guide to the latest knowledge about arthritis.

This state-of-the-art reference provides current insights into the etiology, diagnosis and management of rheumatoid arthritis. Leading international authorities in RA examine all of the latest scientific and clinical developments in understanding and managing this challenging disease, including new concepts in pathogenesis, epidemiology, risk factors, imaging, clinical outcomes and treatment. It's the guidance you need to offer optimal care to your patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic multisystem disease of unknown cause. Although there are a variety of systemic manifestations, the characteristic feature of established RA is persistent inflammatory synovitis, usually involving peripheral joints in a symmetric distribution. The potential of the synovial inflammation to cause cartilage damage and bone erosions and subsequent changes in joint integrity is the hallmark of the disease. Despite its destructive potential, the course of RA can be quite variable. Some patients may experience only a mild oligoarticular illness of brief duration with minimal joint damage, but most will have a relentless progressive polyarthritis with marked functional impairment.

Sleep Medication

  • Sleep Mechanism
  • The Parasomnias and Other Sleep-Related Movement Disorders
  • Functional Anatomy of the Sleep-Wakefulness Cycle

Clinical practice related to sleep problems and sleep disorders has been expanding rapidly in the last few years, but scientific research is not keeping pace. Sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless legs syndrome are three examples of very common disorders for which we have little biological information. This new book cuts across a variety of medical disciplines such as neurology, pulmonology, pediatrics, internal medicine, psychiatry, psychology, otolaryngology, and nursing, as well as other medical practices with an interest in the management of sleep pathology.

This area of research is not limited to very young and old patients-sleep disorders reach across all ages and ethnicities. "Sleep Disorders and Sleep Deprivation" presents a structured analysis that explores the following: improving awareness among the general public and health care professionals; increasing investment in interdisciplinary somnology and sleep medicine research training and mentoring activities; and validating and developing new and existing technologies for diagnosis and treatment. This book will be of interest to those looking to learn more about the enormous public health burden of sleep disorders and sleep deprivation and the strikingly limited capacity of the health care enterprise to identify and treat the majority of individuals suffering from sleep problems.

This comprehensive atlas of tracings of polysomnographic studies covers the technical aspects of conducting studies, and includes the features of the various adult and pediatric sleep disorders.

Tragically, the daily news is filled with stories about hurtful and seemingly mystifying problems in human behavior. Each morning we face news stories about murder, suicide, drunken driving accidents, child molestation, drug abuse, gambling, criminal behavior, and so forth.  The cover stories of news magazines from TIME and Newsweek to U.S. News and World Report often focus on abnormal psychology and behavior connected to these particular topics, as well as to autism, child hyperactivity, depression, eating disorders, and more.

Mental health and illness are the results of interaction among genes and memes that infect the developing individual as elements of culture: family, subculture, and counter-culture. Experiences of stress and nurturance also enter the brain in the form of memes. Many mental illnesses can be conceptualized as a stress-induced exacerbation and recrudescence of dormant noxious memes that infected the individual early in life.

Antimatter

Free eBooks on Antimatter

In the first fractions of a second after the Big Bang lingers a question at the heart of our very existence: why does the universe contain matter but almost no antimatter? The laws of physics tell us that equal amounts of matter and antimatter were produced in the early universe--but then, something odd happened. Matter won out over antimatter; had it not, the universe today would be dark and barren.

This book presents a state-of-the-art view of antimatter-matter chemistry and physics, with emphasis on the nanoscopic interactions of positronium atoms with ordinary matter. Selected applications are also discussed. The chapters present a summary of current knowledge in terms of both theory and experiment and as look to the future of research in this area. Extensive bibliographies are included to make the volume a useful reference book. This volume is intended for a broad audience, ranging from specialists in postron research to the graduate students who could use one or a few of  the chapters as the introduction to a research area.

Of all the mind-bending discoveries of physics--quarks, black holes, strange attractors, curved space--the existence of antimatter is one of the most bizarre. It is also one of the most difficult, literally and figuratively, to grasp. Antimatter explores this strange mirror world, where particles have identical yet opposite properties to those that make up the familiar matter we encounter everyday, where left becomes right, positive becomes negative, and where--should matter and antimatter meet--the resulting flash of blinding energy would make even thermonuclear explosions look feeble by comparison.

Antimatter is an idea long beloved of science-fiction writers--but here, renowned science writer Frank Close shows that the reality of antimatter is even more intriguing than the fiction. We know that at one time antimatter and matter existed in perfect counterbalance, and that antimatter then perpetrated a vanishing act on a cosmic scale that remains one of the great mysteries of the universe. Today, antimatter does not exist normally, at least on Earth, but we know that it is real, as scientists are now able to make small pieces of it in particle accelerators, such as that at CERN in Geneva. Looking at the remarkable prediction of antimatter and how it grew from the meeting point of relativity and quantum theory in the early 20th century, at the discovery of the first antiparticles, at cosmic rays, annihilation, antimatter bombs, and antiworlds, Close separates the facts from the fiction about antimatter, and explains how its existence can give us profound clues about the origins and structure of the universe. For all those wishing to take a closer look at the flip side of the visible world, this lucidly written book shines a bright light into a truly strange realm.

HIV Prevention

Free eBooks on HIV Prevention

Here you can find HIV AIDS Prevention for free share. The HIV/AIDS epidemic has been a key focus for public health for the last twenty years. In recent years, concerns have been raised in the European Union about the threat of a new epidemic. The rate of new infections in some European countries is amongst the highest in the world.

At the World Summit held at the United Nations in September 2005, leaders pledged to fully implement the Declaration of Commitment of HIV/AIDS adopted in 2001, by scaling up efforts for prevention, treatment, care and support so that every person, without exception, has access to these life-saving programs. In Kofi Annan’s address on World Aids Day on 1 December 2005 he said that “It is a time to recognise that although our response so far has succeeded in some of the particulars, it has yet to match the epidemic in scale. It is a time to admit that if we are to reach the Millennium Development Goal of halting and beginning to reverse the spread of AIDS by 2015, then we must do far, far more. That mission concerns every one of us.”

HIV/AIDS continues to be the pandemic of our times. It is estimated that 36 to 45 million people including 2-3 million children already are infected worldwide and an additional 4-7 million more are infected each year.

There has not been a comprehensive medically based AIDS prevention book published in the last five years. Since that time many new program interventions have been tried and much has been learned through evidence-based research. HIV Prevention will place special focus on the array of interventions that have been proven effective through rigorous study. If there is one theme that has been learned to date it is that there is no one-size-fits-all prevention approach that will work in all the geographic, demographic and socio-cultural environments impacted by the worldwide AIDS pandemic.

South Africa has, until now, focused its HIV prevention efforts on youth and adults, and now needs to expand its focus to include children. Much is already known about vertical transmission, which is the dominant mode of HIV transmission among children. However, little investigation has been done into the potential for horizontal transmission of HIV on the population below reproductive age. This report focuses on children aged 2-9 years and, using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.
